After years of wandering through school and jobs, I finally found my passion at a, ahem, slightly advanced age. The thought finally penetrated my aged brain that I really enjoy being outside! One thing led to another and soon I was learning to identify birds, bird song, native plants, wildflowers, and my latest discovery: tracking. Transportation is a piece of the whole experience, including hiking, kayaking, biking and snowshoeing.
I grew up in Oregon and have lived most of my life here. I love to explore the Northwest, but, keeping in mind that I am no longer in my twenties (or thirties or even forties, I could go on), my future plans don't include, for example, hiking the length of the Pacific Crest Trail.
On the other hand, even in my "maturity," this old broad is still capable of hiking portions of the PCT and many other outdoor activities (and indoor activities that involve learning about the outdoors). I hope this blog will encourage more venerable folks, and especially women, to discover, re-discover or simply stay in, the outdoors. And for all you young puppies, remember, if you are lucky, you'll be old someday.
Comments, questions, advice and (kind) criticism welcome. To see what else an old broad is capable of, check out my other blog at https://ccrootsandbranches.blogspot.com/
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.
